Within the BVI there is an abundant of air and sea carriers providing transportation for getting around.  These entails Puerto Rico, USVI, else where in the carribean, charter flights, sightseeing and taxi service and aerial sightseeing.

VIRGIN GORDA, approximately pop 4,000 (fat virgin the second largest and second most popular island in the chains) is a favorite stop-over due to its unusual topography and ultra-laid-back lifestyle. Really three islands in one, reminiscent of the Old West and a light aircraft landing strip. The middle of the island is mountainous with Gorda Peak (1,370 feet) and several lovely beaches, principally Savannah, Devil's Spring and Trunk Bays. The northern third is quite spindly and situated around North Sound with half a dozen other islands, forming an almost landlocked oasis for water sports and island exploring. An abandoned copper mine on the sea and the Baths, a unique granite rock formation with dimly lighted sea caves, are the island's main sights, along with notable resorts, hostelries and anchorages.

TORTOLA, approximately  20,000, the largest of the group islands, where most arrive, has jagged mountain peaks covered with fangipani and ginger on its south coast. The north coast has white sandy beaches, groves of bananas and mangoes and clusters of palm trees. Mount Sage (1,780 feet), a National Park, shows traces of a primeval rain forest and has a notable nature trail. Road Town is the capital of the BVI, center of administration and business hub. Here are shops, banks, Government House, and manu visitor sights, including the Bontanic Gardens, Folk Museum and Tourist Board's Visitor Office.  Famous as a buccaneer's hunting ground. Beef Island is home to the BVI's International Airport. The island is connected to Tortola by the territory's only tool-bridge, a narrow one-lane structure spanning a 300-foot channel dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II in 1366. Long Bay, an excellent shell-laden beach is on its north shore. Nearby is Marina Cay, a six-acre island where Robb White settled with his wife and wrote our Virgin Island. The film of the same title with Sidney Poitier and John Cassavetes was made here. Today it is home to a hotel-resort, well-protected anchorage and snorkeling reef.

ANEGADA, approximately 500, is 20 miles to the north and is the BVI's only coral island in an otherwise volcanic chain.  The island's highest point is so low (28 feet), that arriving by boat, it can barely be seen.  Mile-long beaches are the norm, plus extensive reef and more wrecks than any other caribbean island.  It's a driver's dream and can be reached by ferry and light aircraft.  Looking out on the Drake Channel and Ginger, Cooper, Salt, Peter, and Norm Islands.  Ginger Island is uninhabited and rugged but can be explored by the hardy.  Cooper Island has a food swimming and snorkeling beach, boat jetty and popular beach club which welcomes visitors.  Salt Island has evaporating ponds which are still planned as they were two centuries ago.  The pure salt is packed, sold and used all over the island.

Peter Island, home to a major hotel and yacht club, also boasts very pleasant secluded beaches and picnic spots, including Deadman's Bay, Sprat Bay and Great harbor. Norman Island is believed to be the original site of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island". Hidden riches have been found here and local lore say more is to come. Treasure Point has three caves which may be entered by small boat.

Jost Van Dyke, named for a noted Dutch pirate, is mountainous, has lovely beaches, tropical restaurants and watering    holes at Great Harbor and White Bay. Telephones were not installed for its 100plus inhabitants until 1990. Neighboring Little Jost Van Dyke was the birthplace of Dr. John Lettsome, founder of the London Medical Society. It's tiny neighbor, Green Cay, nearly ringed by beach, is the ultimate "desert island" and has been featured in commercials.

Other Islands reveal countless more of nature's little secrets. Fallen Jerusalem's bizarre rock formations make it look like a destroyed city. Guana Island is a living laboratory and wildlife refuge with ten times the species of flora and fauna usually found on island its size. Dead Chest is reputedly the barren island where Blackbeard marooned 15 mutiny-minded men with one bottle of rum.

The Dogs & Great Camanoe make good stopping off points for sailors on their way from North Sound to Jost Van Dyke; they are also a popular diving venue.  On calm days, the best on chance are the bay on the West of Kitchen Point on George Dog as well as on the South side of Great Dog.  There are private home on the Dogs as well as Great Camanoe.
